Ltd Gallery: From the Toy Box...

Hello All. The online gallery is up and running for the "From the Toy Box" show at Ltd. Gallery. Go check out it's nostalgicness and purchase lots of awesome art.
Here are my final two pieces:

Cy-Kill leading the attack on Earth along with Crasher (GoBots), Magmar, Sticks and Stones and a Gnarly (Rocklords), and Switchblade and Vampire (M.A.S.K.)

Leader 1 calling on heroes to defend the Earth with Scooter (GoBots), Boulder, Nuggit, and Granite (Rocklords), and Thunder Hawk and Condor (M.A.S.K.)

I thought they came out pretty cool. I wanted to do something very bright and colorful, but with a limited palette. I also wanted to get the feeling of the old packaging art style, as well as kind of a propaganda poster feeling. Head over to the gallery now if you want to snag one or both of the beauties. Digital Giclee prints 13" x 19" for $40 apiece.

Ltd Gallery: "From the Toy Box" Show...

Man-oh-man what a busy year it's been!!! I've got a couple pieces in an upcoming show at Ltd Gallery in Seattle. The theme was "From the Toy Box", a show about our favorite childhood toys.

How could I resist participating since it's no secret I frickin' love toys. Here is a sneak peek with my usual super crude sketch/color study in Photoshop. I'll reveal the finals once the show goes live.

So if you're in Seattle on November 13th go check it out. Otherwise you can see the work when it's posted online.

Strongar Furystone: The Pale Wielder!...

The ROLEMODELS exhibit is open and live now at Light Gray Art Lab. There is some killer art in the show and I was lucky enough to be allowed to participate.

My mighty warrior is Strongar Furystone; The Pale Wielder!
"Battle scared, bandaged, betrayed but never beaten; Stongar grips his battle worn blades, tightens the belts of the remains of his frayed, sweat soaked armor, and trudges ever onward toward the next great battle. Every conflict a game, every victory a lesson, every defeat becomes fuel; pausing occasionally to share a rousing tale, Strongar is too soon thrown back into the fight for survival. He also likes cats."

A little side note; the image I posted here varies a bit from the piece in the show. I waited a little too late to get my piece done and also had some extremely painful skin treatment done right at the end of the deadline that really hindered my speed. I had to send in what I was able to get done without putting on the final tweaks. The piece for the show is still awesome, it's just less bloody, slobbery and weapony than this image.

Head on over th Light Gray Art Lab to purchase the amazing game/card deck and prints here.

Hide the kids...

Here is a little sneak peek of my piece for the upcoming "Expletive" Show at Light Grey Art Lab. I don't normally work just straight up typography, but this was kind of fun to work on. Plus I got to throw all kinds of symbolism and stuff in it. Show opens September 14th. It should be pretty awesome, but you might want to leave the kids and grandmas at home.

The show will be up for a few more weeks at Light Grey Art Lab and toys are purchasable now in the shop. Get yours today before they return back to the grave!!

Night of the Exquisite Corpse sneaky...

PaperCorpse_Template_A
So we are slowly getting ready to barrage the interwebs with promo stuff for the upcoming "Night of the Exquisite Corpse" Paper Toy Exhibit coming up August 17th at Light Grey Art Lab in Minneapolis, MN. Some of the amazing artists have been showing a sneak peak here and there of their contributions so here is a little glimpse of my guy. Seeing it flat doesn't quite do it justice. As cool as the art looks on the templates, they look even more amazing when built! More info to come and I hope I see anyone who's able to get there at the show!!

Night of the Exquisite Corspe going strong!...

Hello everyone! The Night of the Exquisite Corspe show is coming along beautifully. I'm smack dab in the middle of assembling all of the amazing toys we've recieved so far(hence the lack of updates) and couldn't be more jazzed on how it's all coming together. We just got back our promo cards featuring the work of Michael Hacker, Manuel Kilger and Tougui. The show is opening August 17th! I hope to see as many of you there as possible. More updates as I get them. NotEC_Promo_sm

I Choose y...Oh My GAWD!!!...

Hey everyone. I originally wasn't going to post this until the Pokemon Battle Royale show, but a lot of the other contributors were revealing their works and I got all excited to show mine ahead of time. Ha.
I was excited to get to do Charizard. Just this giant, bad ass fire breathing dragon thing that would never lose a fight. Then from what I saw of the cartoon they made his personality out to be this cocky asshole who would burn the crap out of Ash every chance he got. I tried to capture a little bit of that personality in this piece. I also loved playing around with the color on this one with the mixes of purples and greens instead of just making it orange. I hope you fans out there feel I did Charizard justice in this rendering and if you get the chance come to the show. It's going to be a huge amount of nerdy fun.

Weekend Monster! 07...

FINALLY DONE!! For whatever reason number seven took me forever. I think partly because I had a really different vision in my head, but then as I was making it, it changed significantly. The car, a Rolls Royce Phantom, was super boring to draw as well. It is done and now posted so enjoy!

Weekend Monster! 06...

Okay I'll admit the car is a little weak on this one. It's supposed to be a Hemi Cuda...but it's late and I need to get it posted. I spent too much time sleeping and doing laundry this weekend. Blurgh...

Weekend Monster! 05...

Weekend Monster! is back (although I'm battling an awesome cold right now) and this weeks Weekend Monster! is dedicated to a certain birthday boy who's birthday was in December. The monster is of course Chris (as teenwolf) and the car is his little go-kart Honda Fit. I drove it the other night and I was impressed that it had so much juice under the hood.

Weekend Monster! 04...

This week I did a little double duty. Creating a Weekend Monster! and participating in my friends over at Paper Bicycle's new holiday challenge.

For the monster I am paying homage to my favorite holiday monster, the abominable "Bumble" snowman from the Rankin/Bass classic Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. I used the teardrop ornament dieline from the PB blog for the monster. For the car I thought the Bumble would probably cruise around in a big ol' snow cat...with flames and I used the christmas car dieline...sort of. I altered it to suit my snow cat needs.

Weekend Monster! 03...

I gotta stop waiting till 6pm on Sunday to start these!! Here is Weekend Monster! number 3 as finished as I can afford to finish it. The car in this piece is the amazing Lamborghini Countach. The one and only car I ever had a poster of as a kid. Also, I found this image which was the inspiration for my slime monster. Enjoy.

Weekend Monster! 02...

Here it is. Weekend Monster! number two. Have I mentioned that I really don't like drawing cars yet?! In other news, go see The Muppets. Is it the best film ever? No. Is it a pretty fun, feel good movie that you'll enjoy? Yes. So go see it.

New Project: Weekend Monster!...

I'm getting a jumpstart on my New Year's resolutions.

Number One; stop eating sooo much garbage. I know that eight cheese macaroni and cheese with bacon looks amazing but I don't want to have a heart attack before I'm forty.
Number Two; I am going to set a new art project for myself called Weekend Monster! I wanted to challenge myself to practice something I hate to draw...cars. I balanced this out with something I like to draw...monsters. So the challenge is to post a monster and his/her vehicle of choice, every weekend, for a year. That make 52 monsters and 52 cars total. We'll see how it goes as I am pretty infamous for never, ever finishing art projects...ever.

I kick this project off with my very own MnS blog mascot and his sweet ride.

Project Ben 10...Diamondhead Final...

Ben 10_Diamondhead_Final_sm
Not gonna lie, this one took me a really long time. Then I got bored and stopped working on it for a long time. Picked it back up and finished over the last couple days.
Painting in Illustrator is so time consuming. I think when I started this project a billion years ago I thought it was going to be fun, and while it is rewarding to see the results these characters take a long time and I get bored and want to do other pieces. We'll see if I ever complete the remaining 7 aliens from the original Ben 10. Seems kind of pointless since there is a new series and like a trillion new monsters. Still, I like the original aliens and I may get to them eventually. If I do, next up will probably be Four Arms.
