Sketch_Dailies: Beebop and Rocksteady...

So I was a little late on this one but man...it's rough to crank one of these out in one day when you have a dumb old job. Anyway I remember always thinking that even as a kid, Beebop looked friggen weird!! Hopefully I did these two idiots justice. Beebop and Rocksteady for Sketch_Dailies. Even though Sketch_Dailies has moved on from TMNT, it would be kinda fun to do all the other toys...

Sketch_Dailies: Metalhead...

I remember I had this figure and thought it was awesome. Then I was playing TMNT: The Arcade Game and he showed up as a boss with full on extendy-arms, lasers and hidden chest gun!! It was an epic moment for me. Of course he immediately kicked my ass and I had to play the level over again. Metalhead for Sketch_Dailies.

Sketch_Dailies: Sergeant Bananas...

Love the Sketch_Dailies themes going on right now! TMNT characters! I was a huge TMNT nut when I was a kid. I had almost all the figures. I am always amazed when someone mentions some obscure figure that I completely didn't remember I had...like Sergeant Bananas.

Hand drawn type...

Took a fun hand drawn type class at Light Grey Art Lab with the talented Andres Guzman. Here were a few of my favorite pieces I walked away with.

Pentel Artist Brush Pen over "Toy Story"
I tried this pen as a recommendation by several other artists. I can't say I really have the hang of it. I think I prefer a real brush for the time being.

Just one the other night. It was getting late.

Practice 09/01/11...

Why use coloring books? Well because they give me a quick and very clean drawing to work from and the art is usually pretty simple. It allows a lot of room to play and explore new techniques, textures, lighting and also makes me draw stuff I might not normally thought of myself. I would probably never draw fairies or flowers but here you go...

Practice makes perfect...

I recently started teaching and the one thing it's made me realize is you have to keep practicing to keep your skills sharp. One thing I never spent too much time on when I was in school was working with ink, nib and brush. So as I dish out my assignments to my students I am going to brush up on my own skills as well. The quickest way to do that is photcopy a bunch of coloring books and work over top. Saves me the time of having to fuss over a bunch of new drawings.
